Kirei, Useless Studio

Curated by Aaron Tse, Amber Ng, Harris Wong, Myron Lai

I would like to tell you a story.

”I yearn for a rest, yet I dare not to.“ This is how the chair speaks to us as an interim station and a state of mind.

The agony arises as quietude lingers; the urge to provoke change in stability, the fear of complacency’s plight, and the desire for more.

Stand up - the next move after sitting on a chair.

Imagine we are living in a world with only chairs, prompting us to lift up the spirit of ‘carry-on’. If this is how vitality looks like, then let it be.

The exhibition ”Kirei“ brings together the works of four local artists, exploring the form and spirit of chairs through different media. It delves into individual interpretations of and responses to ”brief rest“ and ”carry-on,“ presenting the beauty of each artist‘s ebbs and flows of life.

#FBEFF6, Mooroom

I would like to tell you a story.

"#A5B5B7 #3D3B31 #246_600 #176° #FFFFFF #000000."

It speaks of the rain that fell last night and the termites flying under the streetlight; the buzzing bugs I'd rather not face in the summer; and the trivial things in life that suddenly come to my mind. It speaks of humidity; the drags and struggles; and one’s vehemence and stillness.

Colors lay upon colors as thoughts and emotions flow. Patchy and mottled. The mixture of colors can be viewed as a reflection of one’s being, encapsulating one’s time, motion, and vitality. Yet, when colliding with livelihoods, the representations of colors and everything they carry are compressed and flattened to merely sets of numbers. Nothing more.

This exhibition invites six local artists, to set off a journey to explore the language which speaks of light and darkness. When sentiment is completely stripped off, and only rationality is seen as productive, how will such language be compressed? And who will thereby be left speechless, lost, and unbound?

DeNormalled, WURE AREA

Curated by Victor Chan

Deriving from audio routing technicalities of a patchbay, DeNormalled epitomises the pivotal role
'wiring' plays in reconfiguring signal flows from input to input, to brew a new concoction of creative juices.

Led by random pairings, 12 local artists encounter one another's distinct artistic medium and subject interest, distancing from one's all-too-familiar feedback. Rounds of plugging, patching and rerouting underway, the colourful noises of interruptions set in to de-normal the artists' usual outputs, and transport them to an open configuration.

STEAM, Art & Science Exhibition

Curated by Michael Whittle

STEAM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Math) is a group exhibition showcasing the works of students and recent graduates from HKBU’s Academy of Visual Arts who have used a range of different mediums to create artworks that relate to scientific images, ideas, and the process of experimentation.

Displayed alongside the works are a collection of over 50 new Art & Science books recently purchased for the library collection, and a series of quotes from famous artists and scientists on the profound and deep connections between the two disciplines.

(Original), WURE AREA

Curated by Jeremy Ip

Where does “Original” come from? Is it exclusive or destined? Is it a tool or a record? If you can find it through your senses, it will be your company for continuing the art journey.

This project aimed to invite art graduates from different institutions, under the premise of showing their non-graduation-work through an open call and encouraging them to share their distinct realisation of “original”. It can gather as a temporary archive that invites the audience to randomly share the interpretation, analysis and discussion of different “Original”.
